Travelling Soldier…
I have just spent all week travelling from Melbourne, to Brisbane and then on to Adelaide to recruit restaurants to join the StreetSmart campaign for 2011 and I have had 2 very different experiences.
SA – get off your butts and get involved in this program. Queensland has embraced it this year and if any state has had a tough one as far as disasters and stuff to deal with it, our northern bros and hoes are the ones that have suffered most.
Program details are here and you can sign up in all of about… two minutes! www.streetsmartaustralia.org/dinesmart
New restaurants have signed on and many of last years are re signing. Adelaide you were a very different story. 2 days of knocking on doors, emailing, talking to answering services or just plain talking to folk has left the results page looking a bit barren. One wonders… same pitch, same idea, same opportunities and net result is not as I expected…
I have noticed SA is parochial about all things vinous and love to promote their own food and blow a very worthwhile trumpet. It is a trumpet well worth blowing I can assure you. SA makes beautiful food and excpetional wine. But they seem to be a bit resistant to ‘foreigners’ coming in to their patch and making them feel just a little bit uncomfortable.
Brisbane welcomed me with open arms…. and the support for this campaign is wonderful and I am looking forward to more people signing on after I met with them.
Consumers, business people and other PR folks… get your clients involved with this very worthy program to support grass roots homeless projects in your patch of the woods. Go on, it will make you feel good.
