It has started … and I am a bit excited. Vive le Revolutione Rose! I am a fan of rose, dry, savoury, fruit driven rose that is not full of sugar. Just a few days ago I joined a bunch of fabulous looking folk at the always lovely Madame Brussels in Melbourne to sample some offerings of some of the best dry, savoury rose’s from around Australia, and a few international offerings to boot. There were some great brackets to taste and comment on and the tweets were flying wildly around the country. I managed to bump into Dan Sims [...]

I have had an epiphany of some proportion. I am now a devotee of bush foods. This is in no small part due to the Alice Desert Festival and Wild Bushfoods events I have just attended in Alice Springs in Central Australia. It is an almost religious experience that I have had. When I have pondered and mused over past years about what typifies our cuisine, I have always looked to the fusion created by the diversity of our culture, and the melting pot of ethnicity that has formed the Australian culinary identity. But now, I have the perfect answer. [...]

My life is pretty rich I have to admit. Apart from having a gaggle of wonderful mates, a village as a family and a great network of acquaintances, I also get the opportunity to do what I love and love what I do. I once did a radio interview where my guest regaled a tale of the realisation that what he did was write about food and share in so many amazing experiences. I had a bit of a light bulb moment at the same time, realizing that I am in a very privileged position of being able to experience [...]

I have just spent all week travelling from Melbourne, to Brisbane and then on to Adelaide to recruit restaurants to join the StreetSmart campaign for 2011 and I have had 2 very different experiences. SA – get off your butts and get involved in this program. Queensland has embraced it this year and if any state has had a tough one as far as disasters and stuff to deal with it, our northern bros and hoes are the ones that have suffered most. Program details are here and you can sign up in all of about… two minutes! www.streetsmartaustralia.org/dinesmart New [...]

If a bomb was dropped on the National Gallery of Victoria on Monday night, there would be many a restaurant go under this morning as their chefs and front of house crew would be no longer. In what some might say was a star studded event, anyone who is anyone in the Melbourne food and wine scene ( and a few NOTB {North of the border}) gathered in the Great Hall of the NGV to rub shoulders with friends, colleagues and only-on-the-night-foes. There was to be no shilly shallying about either. A quick hello and a few air kisses, along [...]

Were it every day one was charmed by lovely French fellows whilst tasting fabulous wines, one would be a happy one indeed. The fabulous folk from M Chapoutier in the Rhone Valley provided tipples and tastes of the splendidness of Marsanne and Hermtiage. Alongside Chateau Tahbilk from the Nagambie Ranges in Central Victoria, my new mon ami and I made our way through a fabulous journey of these two varieties at The European in Melbourne. Nothing like 20 wines to get one through an afternoon… Thanks to Kathy and the team at Fireworks PR for a great afternoon http://www.fireworkspr.com.au/ Now [...]
